About Us
Since 1999, the Intelligence & Security Academy® (and its predecessor firm) has been providing education and training across a broad range of national security issues to both national security agencies and private sector firms that support these agencies.
In response to repeated requests by individuals and smaller groups seeking to enroll in Intelligence & Security Academy courses, we proudly announced our OpenAcademy in 2009 and now offer courses for individual enrollment.

We also provide courses for many private sector firms that are involved in national security work and we have provided educational support to several U.S. allies, including the governments of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Romania.
The Academy’s President & CEO is Mark M. Dr. Lowenthal is the author of the standard college/graduate school textbook on intelligence, Intelligence: From Secrets to Policy, now in its 7th edition (Sage/CQ Press). He also serves as an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins University and National Intelligence University. In 1988, Dr. Lowenthal was the Grand Champion on the television quiz show Jeopardy! Dr. Lowenthal is well known for his contributions in the intelligence community. He is involved in the creation of all of the Academy’s instructional materials and also teaches and guest speaks at many of its courses.
The Academy’s faculty are former senior intelligence officers and managers, each of whom has had more than two decades of experience across a range of intelligence activities and functions, including service in senior positions, including CIA, DIA, NRO, NSA, State/INR, NGA, ODNI, Military Service intelligence components, and Capitol Hill. As one of our students noted in an evaluation: “These people not only know what they are talking about, they’ve done it!”
